Good morning Ward 6 and Valley East,
My name is Scott Seguin and I am running to be your next Ward 6 Councillor.
Why should you cast your vote for me, Scott Seguin?
I live, work, volunteer, play and breath right in the heart of Ward 6 in my everyday life. This allows me to have a unique connection to our Ward and makes me easily accessible to you my constituents. I don't have to travel far from anything I may be doing. I understand the needs and wants of our community because I am your neighbor and I will strongly advocate for you.
I own my own successful business in Ward 6 which has been in operation for over 6 years. I have catered to the technological needs of the members of our community and built a very good rapport and standing with them over the years at being the best at what I do. I offer seniors discounts. I donate to local charities. I problem solve and always find a solution. The best thing about being in business for myself is that I get to set my own hours, which means you will never hear from me that I am unavailable because I am at work. I will make being your councillor my full time job.
I am already a leader in the community with my volunteer work. I run the 1st Valley BPSA Scouting Group which caters to over 50 youth in our area, with ages ranging from 5-15 years. We sponsor road clean-ups to keep our community clean. I run the Nightmare on St Mary annual Halloween Haunt which funds the local Scouting program by giving 100% of the proceeds to the kids. We also collect food for the food bank. I have been volunteering my entire life for various organizations in and around the Valley.
When our city suffered a crime wave in the early summer I didn't make excuses as to why I couldn't do anything, or sit around ignoring the issue. I brought attention to the fact that the citizens on patrol was cancelled by our current council. Eliminating 150 volunteers to save $58,000 a year on the annual budget, 0.00098%. I offered solutions and when that failed I took it upon myself to step up and patrol our streets at night. I am not a man of words, I am a man of action, a man who will get the job done.
I am Valley born and raised, my family has lived here for 3 generations. Which means I remember what life was like before the amalgamation and I strongly believe we need to decentralize services and bring power back to our outlying communities. The amalgamation has failed and all outlying communities know this as the 2016 report has proven. With Mayoral candidates and Councillors in every Ward who support this we need a Councillor for Ward 6 who will as well. In 2018 a motion was brought forth by Councillor Vagnini to look into decentralizing services for outlying communities and our current councillor voted against it. Don't make the same mistake and choose a Councillor that will support Ward 6 and our needs.
I have a strong voice and solid moral code. I will fight for our needs and be that voice that speaks out against the removal of our services as well as fight to bring many which have been taken away back. I don't get pushed around or manipulated by bullies or fringe groups who think they can use social media and threats to try and control the way I think or will vote for the voice of Ward 6. I am running to represent Ward 6, a voice of the people for the people of Ward 6 (Hanmer and Val Therese).
What are my key platform point?
Decentralizing services and power back to the outlying communities. (We are all unique and need to be represented as such).
A full audit of city spending so we can find the holes and seal them. (No more using your city resources for personal gain).
Giving city staff their voices back. (When I read the gag order in the city staff contract I was appalled, how dare city management think that staff can't talk to their board of directors about their job).
Bringing back line by line budget reports that Council will review together. (No more hiding wasteful spending).
Making Council accountable to the people through transparency and direct involvement.(This is not a part time job).
Repairing our infrastructure and putting priority back to our basic needs and services which have been neglected. (I'm tired of waiting 3 days for snow removal on a major street while the blade sparks the hi-way).
Having a stronger police presence in the outlying areas and making our communities safe again.(2 hours to respond to active crime in progress is not acceptable.)
Ending red tape and high development costs for new development or home expansions. (With the raising of the cost of living in our city, it should not be so hard to setup an in-law suit for your parents).
Setting up a tiny home development to tackle the homeless problems of our city. (Working with local charities to save tax payers on the cost, many are already waiting to step up).
Creating more beds for addiction services to get the opioid crisis under control. (A 2 year waiting list to get help will never solve anything).
Bringing back youth centers and youth initiatives.(Youths need something to do in our communities, they are bored).
Saving our campgrounds and promoting tourism in our beautiful outlying city. (We have a beautiful city, it's time we start showing it off).
Voting starts tomorrow Oct 14th at 10a.m. for online voting and runs until Oct 24th at 8p.m. There are 3 days you can cast paper ballots, Oct 15th, 22nd from 10a.m.-4p.m. at Centennial Community Centre & Arena, 24th from 10a.m.-8p.m., at any voting location within the city. Which ever is easier and more accessible to you the voter. For the full list please visit https://www.greatersudbury.ca/.../casting-your-ballot/ and click on voting opportunities.
